I am interested in extralegal organizations and how internal and external constraints shape violent responses. I approach the questions using organizational economics with a focus on the provision of public goods within emerging economies and developing countries. I also incorporate into my analysis, institutional constraints such as poverty, state capacity, and cultural heterogeneity. Research questions I am currently working on include what the effects of violence on state capacity and economic growth are, how extralegal organizations in Peru engaged in coordinated violence as terrorist and counter-terrorism strategies, how the effectiveness of terrorist organizations is affected by incentive alignment and competition on the provision of governance.
